If you are here on my about page, you know that I am Deb Smouse. I’m proud to say that this year, I will turn forty-two. I thought it would be hard when I turned forty, but I am finding that I continue to learn more about myself each day. Decades for women are truly gifts, so the fear of growing older is something to get beyond. My twenties were years of not being sure of myself. My thirties? The years I truly explored what I wanted from life. The forties are turning out to be a time of true discovery. I have two daughters, one that has moved out on her own and one that shares her time between my house and her dad’s house. My household is rounded out by one 10-year old Bouvier des Flanders Dog, a three-year old tabby cat, and a four-year old guinea pig.
I find that each day starts fresh and the ability to be thankful for each of the gifts you have is a way to renew that zest for life. I am not overly religious, but I do believe in a loving and forgiving God. I am Spiritual…and truly believe in the laws of Karma. In recent years I’ve learned that no one has to live their lives inside a box unless they choose to do so…though a cliché, I believe that life is truly too short. Life is made richer by opening your mind…and life is full of daily joys if we will only allow them.
I am a book lover. My love affair with the written word began when I was six and hasn’t left me. I read a variety of books and magazines. Food is another love. Food is something to be savored! If you want a little alphabet soup I can tell you that I have a BS in Communications and I am a certified PMP (Project Management Professional). I’m a native Texan and have lived the bulk of my life in a ten mile radius of my first childhood home. My roots are deep, but like a tumbleweed, I have this desire to explore new places.
Professionally, I am a consultant, and I love my business. My clients make working a joy. My love affair with the written word goes beyond reading and bleeds into writing. I have the heart of a writer, but I’m not sure I have the stomach to make it my profession. I love the way words form sentences which form paragraphs which soon tell us about the snippets of life. I get my “fix” for the written word over at All Things Girl, a fabulous (and growing) ezine, for which I serve as Editor in Chief. (since 2005). These pages at the “dot com” contain collections of some of my writings. I have the “dot net” as well, a sometimes updated blog.
If you really want to know more, email me. I maybe be slow on writing you back, but I will
